DEATH NOTE

I want to start off by saying, yes I enjoyed the anime series. It was actually good when you get into it. The fantasy of having the power to control the fate of a person and to stop evil people from committing the same horrible acts seems exciting. Kinda like a super hero, except a little more darker in nature. The series is about a young teenage guy who finds a book, the "Death Note." He is the kind of kid who got no respect and has had a life where he has been treated badly by others. He discovers that when he writes the name of a person in this book, they die. He then begins to kill off criminals. Like I said, a super hero type story, but dark. Hey, we all have seen the movie "Dead Pool" right, and we all know that guy was not a saint. Keeping that in mind . . . I did not enjoy the movie. In fact I thought the it was quite terrible. Okay, I understand, you have to fit the whole story into an hour and forty minutes. But common, at least follow some of the same story line that the anime was so famous for.
Light Turner the main character, or Kira whom he names himself, has a girlfriend right off the bat. Which was a little odd, cause in the anime, he did not like anyone knowing that he was using the book. The story line in the movie progressed way too fast. It seemed that everything was being rushed. However, like I said some things I do not fault this movie for considering the amount of story that had to be compressed into that little of a time. But I do fault things like the character "L" going out of his mind and trying to kill Kira himself. "L" was a detective in the movie and the anime that was extremely intelligent and had odd quirks. None the less, L was always calm and collective. In the movie after his care taker was killed, he went insane and tried to kill Kira. The ending of the movie itself was a disaster. The death of the girlfriend, the slow motion falling out of the ferris wheel. What kind of ending was that. He ends up in a comma and then has the book returned to him. L, finds a page and looks like he is going to write lights name on it to kill him. Then the death god saying "humans are so interesting." That was it? That was the ending. I had been looking forward to this movie for some time. Then it showed up on netflix and I was excited to watch it. I did not hate the movie, but I was quite disappointed in it. I would probably recommend the anime, but not the movie.
